Gift rules have tightened for years. BigHit (now BigHit Music) stopped accepting gifts for BTS on March 30, 2018, SM said in 2021 that aespa would not accept gifts or support campaigns, and in 2025 SM said NCT would not accept gifts or letters at airports.

How to mail a fan letter to Korea

  1. Step 1: Find the current official address

    Check the artist's official notice: Weverse for HYBE labels, the notice board on ygfamily.com for YG, and the artist's official site or fan club for SM and JYP. Ignore addresses from old fan posts; agencies move and change P.O. boxes.

  2. Step 2: Write a letter that fits the rules

    Handwrite your letter on regular paper and put it in a standard envelope. Leave out photocards, stickers, cash, gift cards, USBs, and anything bulky, since agencies treat non-letter items as gifts. Don't expect a reply: YG, for example, says it does not confirm receipt of individual letters.

  3. Step 3: Address the envelope the way Korea Post asks

    Put your own address in the top-left corner. Write the recipient address in Roman letters and Arabic numerals, with the 5-digit postal code, the city in capital letters, and Rep. of KOREA as the last line. Put the idol's name first, in English and Korean. Example format from YG's notice:

    Send it from your local post office as international letter mail, and pay for tracking if you want proof of delivery. YG says it accepts letters by post or registered mail only and returns items sent by quick courier. Packages are a bad idea for any agency.

Can I send gifts to a K-pop idol?

Generally, no. HYBE's LE SSERAFIM notice says anything other than handwritten letters is treated as a gift and may be returned or discarded, YG says non-paper items will not be delivered, and BTS has not accepted gifts since 2018.

Can I write the address in Korean?

Korea Post asks for international mail to be addressed in Roman letters and Arabic numerals, and says adding the Korean version is fine. Put the English version first and add the Korean below it or next to the idol's name.

Will my idol actually read my letter?

There's no guarantee, and agencies don't confirm receipt. Sending to the exact address in the current official notice, in a plain paper envelope, gives your letter the best chance of being delivered to the artist.
